A LIFE WORTH LIVING

A LIFE WORTH LIVING
So what is a life worth living? Is living a luxurious life with many servants and going through life by partying all night is a life worth living? Or living a peaceful life of a hermit is a life worth living? Is living like Mother Teresa is a life worth living? Or living like Adolf Hitler is a life worth living? I have put forward these questions because I myself have struggled to find the answers of these questions and frankly speaking I have not found the answer to these questions. However, I believe that I have found a way to lead a normal life with reasonable amount of peace and happiness. In short I believe that I have figured out what is a good life and how to obtain it.
I believe that the fragile concept of a good life hinges upon four things. I have used the word “fragile” because good life is fragile and can get shattered at any point of time. Then we have to remake it; if we can.
So coming back to the four pillars of good life; they are Health, Family, Money, and Respect and in this particular order only.
So first comes Health. All the money, power and all the other joys in the world are useless if you do not have your health. You cannot really enjoy anything if you are in constant pain or suffering due to health complications. I believe that there can be no disagreement on this matter and everybody would agree that health is the foremost and most important thing to lead a good life.
Second comes Family. I don’t know about anybody else but my family and friends are very important to me and I cannot even imagine my life without them. They are the people who love me and care for me and help me out when life is cruel to me. I believe that similar is the case with many people and most of the people would agree that family is important for a good life. There can be some who disagree on this point but these people will probably be in great minority.
Third is money. Now Respect can easily change place with money. It is just an individual point of view. For me money and career are important because they help us out living our day to day life in the desired fashion. Fulfilling daily needs such as food, shelter, clothing, medicine etc all require money and a steep lack of it can cause all sorts of unnecessary problems. I don’t have to elaborate those problems because anybody with common sense can figure out the problems caused by lack of money. Now excessive money brings luxury with it and I see no problem with luxury if you can afford it. So a reasonable amount of money is essential to lead a good life and only a fool will disagree with it.
Now money may not apply to the people who live in the Jungle but that is a totally different thing and I am talking about the good life in the real world.
The fourth and the last thing, but not the least, to live a good life is Respect. How will you feel if everybody you met shoo away you like a dog? Or all the local shopkeepers of your area decide not to sell you anything because they think that you are a piece of crap? Or all of your friends decide to break their friendship with you because they no longer respect you and think that you are a back stabbing son of a bitch. Nobody ever treats you like that because they respect you. Respect is absolutely necessary to lead a good life. Most of the people take respect for granted and don’t realize its’ importance unless it is lost. Therefore I believe that living a life with respect and honor is necessary. Now there are people in this world who live like scum without any respect and honor and some of them even do quiet good for themselves by their disrespectful ways but I don’t believe that a man should live his life in this way. I believe that most would agree with me.
Now as you can see I have not included God and Religion on the things for a good life because there are many atheists who live a good life for example Brad Pitt and Hugh Hefner are just of two of the numerous atheists who can be considered successful by the worldly standards. Although, I believe in a higher power, I don’t believe in any particular religion.
So the ingredients of a good life are Health, Family, Money and Respect. A life in which you can get a reasonable amount of all four is a good life worth living and if there is a lack of any of it. Then you must strive to get it to make your life good; if you can.
Surely there can be circumstances in life when things are beyond your control such as you might get a deadly disease as cancer or suffer terrible accident or lose a dear family member or lose your job or business or lose your possessions in a natural disaster etc. Then you have to keep your head cool, workout things, and attempt to rebuild the good life to the best of your abilities. And even if you can’t then you have to live whatever life you get fighting your circumstances. Because if you fight there will be a chance that things will improve, but if you don’t fight then they may never improve.
So a life worth living is either good life in which you have your health, family, money and respect or a life spent fighting for the good life.
If you know of any other way of living a good life then please let me know.
This is all I have to say for now. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
Sincerely Yours
Imran Mehboob

WHAT IS LIFE

WHAT IS LIFE
What is Life? Why are we here? Why did God send us here? Is life a test or punishment or a joyride? I do not know the answers of any of these questions but I will tell you what I believe in and by which I live my life.
I believe that we are here because our parents wanted us here. Whatever we were, whatever we are, whatever we ever will be, we owe it all to our parents because they are the ones who brought us into this world and nurtured and nourished us into full grown intelligent human beings. There are hapless children called orphans who are brought up by institutions but their case is sadly different. Nevertheless they are too brought into this world because of the will of their parents.
I believe that we are here because of our parents and God has probably nothing to do with it because I don't believe that a supreme being like God will concern himself with the birth of each and every little puny human. I am sure that God has other better things to do than to keep a record of each and every birth each second. Of course this is what I believe in and there is no way of confirming it but my logic says that I am right so I believe I am right.
I have used the word “puny little humans” because that’s what we are when compared to the majesty of God.
I believe that our prime job is to take care of our family and people around us if we can. I believe that life is all about finding solutions to the problems. You are hungry, hunger is a problem, food is the solution. You are thirsty, thirst is a problem, water is the solution. You need shelter, it is a problem, house is the solution. You are jobless, unemployment is a problem, a job is a solution. You have a disease, disease is a problem, medicine is the solution. You are lonely, loneliness is a problem, company of friends is a solution. You want love, lack of love is a problem, well a wife or girlfriend is the solution. You are depressed, depression is a problem, antidepressants and therapy is the solution. If there are a thousand problems in life then there are a thousand solutions.
You see my point? I believe that life is all about finding solutions to the problems and taking care of our family. Finding solutions to the problems is just a way of spending whatever time we have been assigned on this earth until death comes to embrace us. Then if we are lucky, our duties and responsibilities will be taken care of by our next of kin.

DOES GOD REALLY EXIST

DOES GOD REALLY EXIST
I am not a spiritual leader, or a man who has studied religion at length. Although, I am aware of the core teachings of many religions and their origins, thanks to the internet. Now I am not claiming to offer the proof of God’s existence or absence, I am just telling what I believe in and why. You don’t have to agree with me. Everybody is free to hold their own views on the subject matter.

I have been a man who has always struggled to find faith in religion and God; and for years I have tried to find the answer to the question whether God exists or not. I have been a believer in God and religion. I have been an atheist and a non believer in any religion, and nowadays, I believe in a God but not in any religion, and I will tell you why.
After years of soul searching and experiencing various joys and tragedies in my life;
I have come to the conclusion that God does exist. Anyway, whether God answers our prayers or not or why he allows suffering in this world is a different topic altogether that I will discuss later.

Now coming back to the point; the existence of the universe, the earth and all the life on it is the proof that God exists. All the things that one needs, has to be made by someone. You need a house, masons make it. You need a pair of pants, a tailor makes it. Even if you want a cup of tea or a cup of coffee, someone has to make it.

So someone must have made this universe, this earth, all the creatures, all the life and all the systems that sustain life on this planet. Since science cannot answer who made all the above mentioned things, it must be some higher power, and that I believe is God.

Some people would demand that God literally descend from sky on a heavenly chariot driven by angels only then they would believe in his existence or he perform such a great miracle such as parting the sea in two halves just in front of their eyes; only then they would believe in his existence. Well such people are entitled to their belief; I am not here to judge them.

Now I may sound pro-Christian, but believe me, I am not. I would say to such people that God performs miracles each day; we have to just open our eyes to see them. A small seed turns into a fruit bearing tree. Some bodily fluids transforms into a human being. The unconditional love of a mother for her child. The loving bond most of us share with our family. Isn’t all these miracles? I don’t know about anybody else but these are miracles enough for me to believe in the existence of God.

Science can discredit religious believes, religion can discredit scientific theories, but none of them can discredit the existence of God.

Some would ask why there is suffering in this world if God exists or why evil exists if God is there? Well this world is not heaven, life is difficult, and it is not some joyride, unless you work really hard to make it so. Disasters, Death, DiseaseS, Accidents, and Crime etc all are the part of the life. No one should expect God to swing a magic wand and make all the problems of their life go away. Everybody has to work out there problems on their own or with the help of their family and friends. And if some problem is so great that it cannot be solved – like the polio in my left leg – then even that does not really matter because in the end no one ever makes out alive anyway.

I believe in a God, I am devout to God but I am not devout to any religion. I believe that religion was devised as a means of controlling the thinking of the man. So he could be ruled by clever men.

Look at the history of the human race, there have been so many religions which have come and gone. Aztecs, the native people of America, had their sun God to whom they used to offer human sacrifice by chopping off necks. The Egyptians had pharaohs, the men who claimed to be God themselves. Inca had their own religion. Red Indians still have their own religion. While Christians have crusades, Islam has its own jihad, and much blood has been spilled due to these in the middle ages. Some would argue that blood is still being spilled. While Hinduism is a religion of non-violence it has racism and advocates the practice of “Sati Pratha” according to which a widow should burn herself alive on the pyre of her dead husband.

If one looks closely at other religions, they would find flaw in them too. And the biggest flaw of most of the religions is that they discriminate between men and women. If religion has come directly from God, why it is flawed?

A man is born with hunger, thirst and a need to urinate and excrete. If religion is so important and God lays much importance on saving our soul through religion then why all human beings are not born with a universal religion programmed into their brain similar to hunger and thirst.

Generally, a baby born to a Christian becomes a Christian. A baby born to a Muslim becomes a Muslim. A baby born to a Hindu becomes a Hindu. A baby has no religion. It is the parents who teach a baby religion. So it is wise to assume that if a baby was raised by lions then he would not follow any religion and hunt with his pride like any other lion. The point is that religion is not something with which we are born with. It is something that we inherit from our parents and we should not blindly believe in something just because our parents and their parents believe in it.

Therefore, I believe in a God but not in any religion.

This is all I have to say for now. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Sincerely Yours
Imran Mehboob
